Award Definition

Excellence in implementation of a franchisor international expansion strategy.

Eligibility

This category is open to single or multi-brand franchisors that have a head office in Australia and which implemented an international expansion strategy in the 12 months immediately preceding the opening date for entries.

Entries must pertain to a single brand. Multi-brand franchisors are eligible to enter, but must declare which brand they are entering. All material, information and achievements must pertain solely to that brand.

To enter the awards you must be a financial FCA member, including at the time of the presentation of the awards.

Award Process

  1. Review the assessment criteria below to confirm that you are willing to respond to detailed questions in these areas. Awards submissions will be assessed against specific Awards questions that are available upon registering through the online Awards portal below and paying the Awards application fee.
  2. In 2022, National Awards submissions will open in May. Click here to view the opening and closing dates for awards.
  3. Click the link below to register for the online Awards portal and pay the application fee. Your application fee goes toward covering the administration, marketing and assessment costs associated with the Awards.
  4. You will be sent a link to complete your online submission(s) containing a number of specific questions based on the areas of assessment below. No late submissions will be accepted.
  5. All submissions will be assessed by judges using predefined criteria to create a short-list of finalists. You will be kept informed of the status of your submission.
  6. The winner of Excellence in International Franchising, and merit award winners, will be announced at the FCA National Excellence in Franchising Awards on Monday 17 October 2022.

Areas to be assessed

Business planning and performance This area covers background information in relation to the company’s international expansion program.
Research Research undertaken prior to international expansion. This includes specific research undertaken in each market as well as piloting or testing of the franchise concept in new markets.
Strategy Key strategic issues identified for success in each market. This includes investment of people and resources in the planning process as well as issues identified and how these have been addressed.
Risk management and adaptation How risks have been minimised and unforeseen challenges managed. This includes risks identified prior to entry into each market as well as adaptations made to your concept, products or marketing in the light of piloting or unforeseen challenges.
Implementation and support How effectively expansion plans have been implemented and supported in each market. This includes processes used to select international partners, agents or franchisees as well as initial training and ongoing support provided for local operators.
